House of the Dragon takes home BAFTA Television Craft Awards for hair and makeup design, special and visual effects, and sound.
The 2023 BAFTA Television Craft Awards went down in London recently, and two shows emerged as the favorites: the British medical drama This Is Going To Hurt, and HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. Per Deadline, each won three awards.
But obviously we’re more excited about House of the Dragon here at WinterIsComing.net. First up, Amanda Knight, Barrie Gower and Rosalia Culora won the award for Make-Up & Hair Design. Kudos to them for meticulously maintaining what I imagine to be a warehouse full of silver-blonde wigs.
Next, Alastair Sirkett, Doug Cooper, Martin Seeley, Paula Fairfield, Tim Hands and Adele Fletcher won the award for Sound: Fiction. Finally, Angus Bickerton, Nikeah Forde, Asa Shoul, Mike Dawson, MPC and Pixomodo took home an award for Special, Visual & Graphic Effects.
Awards season has been going on for a while now, but TV’s biggest night has yet to arrive: the 2023 Emmys will air in September of this year. We don’t know the nominations yet, but hopefully House of the Dragon will be well-represented. I’d also expect a lot of nominations for The Last of Us. Stay tuned.
