Temuera Morrison has been a part of the Star Wars universe for over 20 years, first appearing as formidable bounty hunter Jango Fett in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Since Fett is the genetic template for millions of clone soldiers, including his son Boba Fett, Morrison has made frequent appearances in the Star Wars universe ever since.
Most recently, Morrison appeared as Boba Fett during the second season of The Mandalorian, where he recovered his armor and devastated a group of stormtroopers with a bantha stick. He felt very much like the ruthless, no-nonsense bounty hunter Star Wars fans remember from the movies. But when it came time for the standalone Book of Boba Fett show, the character was gentler and kinder.
Weirdly, the best parts of The Book of Boba Fett didn’t involve Boba at all, but rather focused on Din Djarin and Grogu from the Mandalorian, who came in at the end and basically took over the show. Many fans thought these scenes should have been saved for season 3 of The Mandalorian, which has since been met with lackluster reviews. Just what is going on over there at Lucasfilm?
Boba Fett actor says it was “painful” to see the Mandalorian steal the spotlight
Morrison shed some light on what sounds like disorganization behind the scenes during a Q-and-A segment at the SUPANOVA Comic Con & Gaming convention in Melbourne, Australia, where he was asked whether he was supposed to appear in season 3 of The Mandalorian. “I was supposed to be in The Mandalorian season 3 but nobody rang me,” Morrison said. “I was waiting for the phone call in New Zealand, waiting and wanting to give up.”
Morrison also sounded a little miffed about being shown up on a series named after his character. “Well that Mando guy stole a few chapters of my book,” he said about Din Djarin’s appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. “It was painful to watch him turn up with some black new lethal sword. And the way he turned up in my Book of Boba, he just destroyed everybody. I’m sure this guy is… ah… ruining my show. But I couldn’t say anything. I’m not the writer, so I have to bear it I guess.”
At this point, Morrison’s future in the Star Wars franchise is up in the air. “I think there is a few changes going on,” the actor said. “We also come under the big umbrella known as ‘Disney’ now too. So it’s one of the last few conversations we had in L.A. The conversation started like, ‘Oh look we’re having a few changes. We’re having a few cutbacks.’ And when you hear that at the other end of the line, it’s no good trying to negotiate any more money that’s for sure. So we’ll see what happens.”
Don’t hold out hope for The Book of Boba Fett season 2
Going by these comments, it certainly doesn’t sound like there will be a season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett. I wouldn’t count on seeing more of Morrison at all.
I would hate to see a Star Wars mainstay like Morrison get thrown to the wayside. Star Wars content has been suffering in terms of quality for a few years at this point. Morrison’s comments suggest there are too many hands in the creative cookie jar.
