The Walking Dead alum Chandler Riggs is looking back on his time playing Carl Grimes. In 2018, his character tragically died during the show’s eighth season. It was a surprise at the time, given Carl had survived in the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. No one saw it coming!

It’s been nearly six years since Riggs left the series, but he fondly remembers his time on it. In an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, he opened up about leaving the show and what opportunities have come his way since then, including voicing Superman in the new animated film Justice League X RWBY.

“It’s crazy to think it was almost six years ago now that I left the show. It was an incredible experience and I’m so lucky to have been on it for so long,” Riggs said. “I’m so grateful for everything it gave me over the years. I wouldn’t have been playing Superman if it wasn’t for that. It was pretty bittersweet.”

Chandler Riggs “not bitter at all” about his early exit from The Walking Dead

Riggs is incredibly grateful for the time spent on The Walking Dead but he still has his qualms about ending Carl’s journey so soon. He felt that there was still more story to tell, which I can’t argue with. “I knew there was a lot more left in Carl’s story that I was not able to tell, but at the same time, it was nice because I could do other projects and films and shows I couldn’t have done on The Walking Dead,” he said. “I’ve been able to play other characters and really feel like I’m stepping into being an adult actor. It was really cool and I’m not bitter about it at all.”

In today’s day and age, characters are killed off shows quite frequently. I’m happy to hear that Riggs looks back on The Walking Dead fondly. They loved him over there because he got a cameo in The Walking Dead series finale. He just played a random background character, but it was still great to see him pop up.

Wishing you the best of luck, Chandler Riggs! We are rooting for you!
