We never will find out if there’s gold inside Mt. Rushmore or whatever, because Deadline reports that Disney+ has cancelled National Treasure: Edge of History after one season.

The show revolved around Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera), a young DACA recipient living in Louisiana who finds out that her dead father is part of a secret network of treasure hunters. She ends up facing down a black market antiques dealer played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. The cast also includes Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker and Lyndon Smith.

The first season of the show ran from December 2022 through February 2023, after which we endured a few months of foreboding silence. After that, it was no great surprise that Disney has dumped it.

Will Disney make a third National Treasure movie?

Nicolas Cage, who starred in a pair of National Treasure movies in 2004 and 2007, was pointedly not in Edge of History. Fans have wondered whether he might star in a third movie, but a theoretical National Treasure 3 has been in development hell for years and doesn’t look like it’s  leaving anytime soon. The news about Edge of History doesn’t bode well for the brand.

I guess no one’s interested in watching actors pilfer iconic items from United States history anymore. The people guarding the Declaration of Independence can relax.
