The lucky people at CinemaCon have gotten to see a trailer for Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s to his 2021 adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel. Part Two will finish off the story of the first book, continuing the journey of young Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) from privileged son of a space lord to powerful space messiah.
Chalamet put it a bit differently: “In the first movie Paul Atredis is a student…we really see Paul Atreides become a leader here,” he said, per The Hollywood Reporter. Part Two will also feature a much bigger role for Chani (Zendaya), a Fremen woman Paul meets towards the end of the first movie. “These are still just two young people who are trying to grow up and fall in love and live,” Zendaya said.
Villeneuve weighed in as well. “Part One is more of a contemplative movie,” he said. “Part Two is an action-packed, epic, war movie. It is much more dense. We went to all new locations. I didn’t want a feeling of repetition. It’s all new sets. Everything is new.”
New doesn’t necessarily mean better, but star Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) is pretty sure it will be both. “I’m gonna say, Part 2 is better than Part 1,” she said on Jakes Takes. “hat is me saying it based on what I’ve read, what I’ve seen, what I’ve filmed.”
Austin Butler is pale, bald and monstrous in Dune: Part Two
Part Two will introduce other characters, like Christopher Walken as the Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as his daughter Irulan, and Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the nephew of the vile Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård).
Butler appears as Feyd-Rautha in the trailer, and he’s been getting a good amount of attention. Villeneuve describes him as “an Olympic sword master mixed with psychotic Mick Jagger.” Folks on Twitter are fixated on the fact that he’s completely bald and pale:
Dune: Part Two opens in theaters on November 3. And hopefully that trailer will be out any minute.
