Avatar: The Last Airbender movie gets official release date

It’s time to try and make an expanded Avatar: The Last Airbender universe happen! Avatar Studios, headed up by original series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is working on creating several Last Airbender movies. The first will reportedly feature the main characters from the original show — Aang, Sokka, Katara, Toph and Zuko — as adults.

At CinemaCon, Paramount finally gave us some solid information on that movie: a release date. The as-yet-untitled Last Airbender movie will come out on October 10, 2025.

According to Avatar News, Paramount also showed off an image from the movie featuring our main players standing in front of a snowy mountain. Zuko is sporting an extra-long ponytail.

What is the Avatar: The Last Airbender movie about?

Unfortunately, we still have no idea what the story is, although we can make some educated guesses based on The Legend of KorraThe Last Airbender sequel sequel series set some 70 years later.

At the end of The Last Airbender, Aang and his friends stopped the Fire Nation from taking over the world. At the beginning of The Legend of Korra, Aang has been dead for some time, having passed of old age. Korra, the new Avatar, has taken his place.

In between those events, Aang and company established Republic City, a metropolis where users of different elements lived together. Perhaps this new movie will explore that period.

And remember, by the way, that these animated movies are completely separate from the live-action remake of the original series that Netflix is making:
