Good news: the second season of House of the Dragon is now in production. Soon enough, we’ll get to follow up on that chilling moment from the end of season 1, where Aemond Targaryen killed his nephew Lucerys Velaryon and set off the Dance of the Dragons.
But not that soon. The second season of the show is set to shoot through September or October of this year. After that, there will be post-production, and given that this show involves dragons that require an army of CGI artists to bring to life, that will take a while.
All of that means that there’s no chance we’ll be seeing the second season of House of the Dragon season 2 this month, May 2023.
House of the Dragon season 2 is not coming out on HBO and Max in May 2023
On the other hand, this means the chances of us seeing House of the Dragon season 2 sometime in 2024 are very good. And while that’s still a two-year wait between seasons, considering the lengthy breaks some shows take between installments, it could be worse.
Also, there’s word that HBO may renew House of the Dragon for season 3 early, meaning the wait for season 3 will be shorter than the wait for season 2. The network knows what a good thing it has and wants to get it to us in as timely a manner as possible.
