Joe Keery (Steve) says Stranger Things ending will be “bittersweet”
By Ariba Bhuvad
Stranger Things is coming to an end with the upcoming season 5, and we are not ready. Sadly, we might be waiting even longer than anticipated considering the Writer’s Guild of America has gone on strike as of midnight last night. With this strike, writing on TV shows and movies will halt, so we will have to wait and see how productions like the final season of Stranger Things are impacted.
Since filming had not yet begun, there may still be some writing left to do, which means shooting may be delayed until the strike ends. But who knows when that will be? The last time this happened was in 2007, which led to some TV seasons being cut short.
In any case, star Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, spoke about the final season of Stranger Things while at German Comic-Con. “It’s going to be bittersweet, for sure,” he said. “I think everybody’s excited to start working again, but it’ll be like the first time of a lot of last things, as well. It’ll be very bittersweet.”
Will the Hollywood writer’s strike delay Stranger Things season 5?
While we must say goodbye to the original show, Netflix is not done with the Stranger Things franchise. An animated spin-off series is in the works, and there may be more beyond that. “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” teases creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
While on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Duffers spoke about the Season 5 writers’ room, describing it as “like if season 1 and [season] 4 had a baby. And then that baby was injected with steroids.”
Sadly, we may have to wait longer than anticipated due to the writer’s strike. Depending on how long that goes on, we may be looking at a date past 2024, which was the reported premiere date for the final season. Time will tell!
