Like fans of pretty much any long-running media franchise, Game of Thrones fans love to debate things. Who was the best ruler of Westeros? How should the show have ended? Who was the best fighter from the series?
Usually, questions like these can only be debated to exhaustion, for there can be no final answer…until now! Recently, AI chatbots like ChatGPT have taken the internet by storm. Trained on massive amounts of data, they can take a simple prompt and output an answer driven not by emotion, but by hard cold logic. We welcome the judgment of our new chrome overlords.
So we asked ChatGPT: who is the best fighter on Game of Thrones? Be witness to its Word:
"[M]y personal opinion is that the single best fighter on Game of Thrones is Ser Arthur Dayne. Despite never appearing on screen, his legendary status as the greatest swordsman in Westeros is a testament to his unparalleled skill and bravery in battle. He was able to hold his own against multiple opponents at once and was renowned for his exceptional swordsmanship. Other characters such as Brienne of Tarth, Jon Snow, and the Hound are also highly skilled fighters, but Ser Arthur Dayne’s reputation as a formidable warrior and his mythic status in the Game of Thrones universe make him a fan favorite for the title of best fighter."
AI identifies the best fighter from Game of Thrones
Okay, well, the AI made a mistake there when it said that Ser Arthur Dayne never appeared onscreen. He featured in a weirwood flashback scene from season 6, where he duel-wielded swords and took down a bunch of dudes at the Tower of Joy. Only Howland Reed and a young Ned Stark survived the fight:
Ser Arthur Dayne was played by Luke Roberts on the show. He was a member of the Kingsguard under Aerys II Targaryen, Daenerys Targaryen’s father. He was known as the Sword of the Morning and was widely regarded as a badass. He’s definitely a good candidate for the title of Best Fighter from Game of Thrones.
That said, the fact that Arthur Dayne died years before the main events of Game of Thrones gives him a kind of mystique that’s hard to test. How would he fare against the likes of the Hound, the Mountain, Ser Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth? It’s impossible to say.
So perhaps the debate will continue after all!
