By WiC Staff
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is out now in theaters, bringing a close to this chapter of the sci-fi saga. It’s clear there will be more Guardians stories one day, but with a different team.
You may be wondering how many post-credits scenes the film has. Marvel has a long tradition of using end credits scenes to tease upcoming projects, so it should come as no surprise to discover that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 continues that trend.
Scroll on down to find out how many end credits scenes there are in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but first, a spoiler warning: We will be briefly discussing the scenes, which may give away some of the plot points of the movie proper.
How many post-credits scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has two post-credits scenes, one situated in the middle of the credits, and one at the very end.
The first post-credits scene shows Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) leading the next iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with characters like Groot (Vin Diesel), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo (Maria Bakalova), and Phyla (Kai Zen), a young girl who was rescued from the High Evolutionary during the film’s climactic third act. The new Guardians banter in typically absurd fashion, letting us all know that we’re in for a good time whenever they return, before taking on a group of aggressive aliens.
As a cherry on top for fans of the films, this credit scene also reveals that Peter Quill gave Rocket his Zune mp3 player as a parting gift. Rocket dials up “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, which you may recall was the song that Peter Quill danced to during the opening credits scene of the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
The second post-credits scene is short and sweet; it shows Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) having breakfast with his grandfather on Earth. His grandfather is reading a newspaper, which has a fun little easter egg story on the front about Kevin Bacon telling all about his “alien abduction.” We saw what he was talking about in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.
As the two talk about the neighbors, we get a slow pan out that fades into the words “The Legendary Star-Lord will return.” Perhaps this is hinting at a solo endeavor for Quill? There is a recent run of comics called The Legendary Star-Lord which details Quill’s time after leaving the Guardians, so perhaps the MCU is going to go down that route.
