The question “Marvel or DC?” is as old as the hills. Whether you’re a steadfast supporter of just one or an avid fan of both, everyone seems to have an opinion,  and arguments can get heated very quickly.

Perhaps no one is better suited to weigh in on the question than James Gunn, who has experience working both at Marvel (most notably with the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) and DC, where he’s starting to build out a new continuity the studio hopes will rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Gunn, the debate is futile and the fierce rivalry a myth. “People have this weird belief that Marvel and DC hate each other or somehow are polar opposites,” he told Yahoo Entertainment. “But it’s just not the truth. I mean, listen, man, our job is the same. We want to get people into the theaters to see movies. That’s what matters. And I think that we work together to do that.”

Gunn is of the opinion that as long as good superhero movies keep getting made, both sides will profit. “And the more good Marvel movies are, the better it is for DC movies. The more good DC movies, the better it is for Marvel movies,” he said. “There’s not only one winner. There can be two winners because it matters who goes to see your movies and who enjoys ’em.”

"It’s not odd [for me to work on both Marvel and DC movies]. It isn’t odd at all, not to me. I understand how it appears, but I’m just busy cause I’m working two jobs at one time. But it’s not odd."

Gunn things Chris Pratt would make a good Batman

Chris Pratt is collecting big franchises left and right lately. He’s Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy, Owen Grady in the Jurassic World movies, and Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Might we one day see him int the DC universe? Well, with long-time collaborator James Gunn now at the helm, it’s very possible.

Here’s what Pratt said when asked about potentially playing Batman: “Yep… That’s just what America wants, and the rest of the world, is for me to play Batman. It’s fine. It’s time to finally bring an actor with some gravity to it,” he said.

“You’d be a good Batman,” Gunn responded. “That’s not a bad thing.”

James Gunn’s final movie in the MCU, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, is out now in theaters. Prepare yourselves, this one is an emotional rollercoaster!
