Karen Gillan’s advice for new Doctor Who companion: “Just enjoy it”
By Ashley Hurst
Every Doctor Who fan has dreamed of stepping foot inside the TARDIS and embarking on perilous adventures throughout time and space. Over the years, the Doctor has had dozens of companions. Later this year, the 60th Anniversary special will introduce us to Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), companion of the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa).
One person who knows all about being the Doctor’s companion is Karen Gillan, who played Amy Pond from 2010-2012 during Matt Smith’s tenure as the Doctor. She offered some advice to Gibson: “Your life’s about to turn upside down, but it’s… you know, just make sure that you keep all of your people around you and your support system and just enjoy it,” she told Radio Times.
In one episode of the upcoming season, Gibson’s character travels back to the swinging 60s with the Doctor. Check out the latest image of them together. The costume department deserves all the awards:
Karen Gillan addresses a potential return to Doctor Who!
Gillan has gone on to become one of the most memorable companions in the show’s history. “It is the most exciting thing to go on adventures with the Doctor in the TARDIS,” she added. “It’s like the best thing ever!”
Later this year we will see Catherine Tate (Donna Noble) reprise her role as a companion, as well as Millie Gibson’s debut as Ruby Sunday. There may not be space for Gillan this time around, but she’s certainly not ruling out any future involvement.
“I mean, yeah, it’s always nice when people appreciate anything that you’ve done,” Gillan said. “But no, it’s cool to see that people are still intrigued by Amy Pond and whether she could return.”
So will she be returning? “Maybe, maybe not – I don’t know!”
We will get three Doctor Who specials marking the show’s 60th Anniversary this November.
