Last year, The CW was bought by Nexstar Media Group, and they immediately set about making deep cuts in an effort to make the network profitable. Those continue today, as The Hollywood Reporter reports that The CW has canceled action-adventure series Kung Fu as well as The Winchesters, a prequel to Supernatural.

“As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions,” the network said in a statement. “We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.” Well, isn’t that nice?

Supernatural ran for a staggering 15 seasons and followed the adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester, brothers who hunt monsters, ghosts and the like. The Winchesters is about their parents and is produced by Jensen Ackles, who played Dean. He’s not taking this cancelation lying down.

Jensen Ackles: “Let’s find The Winchesters a new home”

“Looks like we got work to do,” Jensen tweeted alongside the hashtags #SaveTheWinchesters and #spnfamily. And in a video, he — along with the cast of the show — encouraged the fandom to use the #SaveTheWinchesters hashtag to…well, save The Winchesters.

“You know what to do,” Jensen said. “Let’s blow the top off this thing and show what this fandom’s made of. Let’s find The Winchesters a new home. Cause you know what? We still got work to do.” And then he winked, sending his fans into overdrive.

Plenty of canceled shows have found second lives elsewhere, so it’s not impossible that someone could swoop in and save The Winchesters. We’ll see if anyone bites.

The CW must choose to renew either Superman & Lois or Gotham Knights

The CW has renewed two of its remaining dramas: All American and Walker. There are three that remain in limbo: the All American spinoff All American: Homecoming, and the DC dramas Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights.

Per THRHomecoming is probably safe, but The CW will likely only renew one of the DC shows. Superman & Lois has the bigger audience, but Gotham Knights — about the children of Batman villains teaming up to clear their name after Batman is murdered — is cheaper to produce, although obviously it has a much stupider premise.

What will The CW of the future look like? We’ll see what happens!
