HBO’s year got off to a great start with the release of The Last of Us, adapted from Naughty Dog’s video game of the same name. The post-apocalyptic drama stars Game of Thrones alums Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), and it was an immediate hit. The series was a critical success and an audience favorite, posting very strong viewership numbers.

And the show is still performing admirably despite concluding back in March. In its most recent financial report, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that the show is averaging just under 32 million viewers per episode in the U.S. and is the “most-watched show in the history of HBO Max in both Europe and Latin America.”

HBO Max (soon to just be “Max”) hasn’t been around for that long — it didn’t exist back when Game of Thrones was on, for instance — but The Last of Us still managed to beat out shows like House of the Dragon and Succession, which is no easy feat.

With numbers like these, HBO’s decision to quickly renew the show after only three episodes is totally vindicated.

Pedro Pascal lands new role in Weapons

Between The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, Gladiator 2, and several other roles, Pedro Pascal is the busiest man in Hollywood, and possibly on the planet Earth. And now he’s signed up for another project: Zach Cregger’s Weapons.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it’s unknown who he’ll play in the movie. The film is described as an “interrelated, multistory horror epic” that recalls Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 hit Magnolia.

Weapons is poised to begin filming this fall, the same time Pascal could may also start filming The Last of Us season 2. That’s one hectic schedule!
