Meera Syal is Verin Mathwin in The Wheel of Time season 2
By Daniel Roman
We have some exciting news about Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series: actor Meera Syal (The Sandman) will play Verin Mathwin in the fantasy show’s second season. We’ve known Syal was cast in The Wheel of Time season 2 since late 2021, but could only speculate about who she might play.
Verin is a member of the Brown Ajah of the Aes Sedai and extremely important character in the story overall. The Brown Ajah is heavily focused on the pursuit of knowledge and gathering information; many Browns think that having a firm grip on the past will help them navigate the challenges expected to come about with the rise of the Dragon Reborn.
Verin and her warder Tomas first appear in Robert Jordan’s novel The Great Hunt, the second Wheel of Time novel. To say much more would spoil things, so I’ll leave it there for now.

The news marks the second big casting confirmation in the past few weeks. At JordanCon, we got casting information for characters like Bain (Ragga Ragnars), Chiad, (Maja Simonsen), Dain Bornhald (Jay Duffy) and Sheriam Sedai (Rima te Wiata).
To go along with the reveal, the BBC also aired a brief clip revealing Syal in costume as Verin during the BAFTA TV awards, where Syal was awarded a BAFTA fellowship lifetime achievement award. It’s only a brief glimpse, but it’s enough to get us hyped for season 2:
As of right now, The Wheel of Time season 2 has no set release date, but we’re expecting to see it hit Amazon Prime Video sometime this year.
