Death comes to King’s Landing in House of the Dragon season 2 set pics
By Dan Selcke
Filming on the second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon continues, sans writers. The show is about to film some big outdoor scenes in the city of Cáceres and the town of Trujillo, both in Spain. With thanks to Los Siete Reinos, Watchers on the Wall, and @javiborrega on Twitter, we can bring you information on just what’s going down.
Starting tomorrow, cameras will roll in Trujillo, which it looks like is being dressed as a marketplace in King’s Landing, a function it already served this function in season 1.
Filming will then move to Cáceres, where it will last for several days, from May 20-25. There will be some big scenes here, but beware SPOILERS below.
SPOILERS: Death is coming in House of the Dragon season 2
One of the most intriguing things seen on set today is this covered cart:
What could be under that tarp? Fans think they know, but again, it requires spoilers, so if you’d rather be surprised, stop reading here.
At one point in Fire & Blood, the book on which House of the Dragon is based, Rhaenys Targaryen rides her dragon Meleys to the castle of Rook’s Rest to help its lord fight the greens, led by Ser Criston Cole. But Criston had laid a trap for her: both Aemond Targaryen and his brother, King Aegon Targaryen, lay in wait with their dragons Vhagar and Sunfyre. The dragons fight in the sky, and Meleys is killed along with Rhaenys.
After that, Meleys head is brought back to King’s Landing; that’s what we assume is under the tarp. Grim.
Prepare for an important funeral scene in House of the Dragon season 2
Here’s another notable thing: a box labeled “Jah Funeral Action Props”:
This is another big spoiler. “Jah” likely stands for Prince Jaehaerys, King Aegon’s son. He dies in a major scene involving assassins named Blood and Cheese. Expect that to be an important sequence in season 2. And now we know there will be a funeral scene, as well.
Finally, it’s important that you know that the box full of props for a brothel is labeled “cock inn.” Is that actually the name of the brothel or just what’s on the tin? Stay tuned.

Pics from the set of House of the Dragon season 2
House of the Dragon is shooting elsewhere in the world, including in Wales, reportedly at Dinorwic Quarry:
We leave you with this picture of the fanciest horse in King’s Landing. Note the golden Targaryen sigil; Prince Aegon II adopts the flashier version of the family crest during the Dance of the Dragons:
House of the Dragon season 2 is due out sometime in 2024.
