The Expanse: A Telltale Series video game has a release date!

Whether it’s The Expanse book series or the TV show, this sci-fi story has a lot of passionate fans, and it’ll soon be making the leap to video games. A release date has just been announced for episode 1 of The Expanse: A Telltale Series, a game that follows the early exploits of Camina Drummer before the start of The Expanse show.

We’ve been hearing rumbles about The Expanse: A Telltale Series for a while, but now we actually know when we’ll get to play it: the first episode releases on July 27.

The Expanse video game is coming in July!

Telltale Games famously made a run of Game of Thrones narrative video games back in the day, which forced players to make difficult choices with long-lasting repercussions. We can expect that trend to continue in The Expanse: A Telltale Series, which will see Drummer and her Belter scavenger crew explore wrecked starships, survive mutinies, and more. Drummer was played by actor Cara Gee in the Amazon series, and Gee will be returning to the role for the Telltale game.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series is being produced by Telltale Games and Deck Nine Games in association with Alcon Television Group. It marks the first new game series from Telltale following a restructure of the company in 2019, and from the early footage we’ve seen, it looks really promising. Drummer will have to utilize iconic Expanse tech like mag boots to traverse wrecks, as well as make the sorts of tough decisions Telltale is known for. Remember when Drummer had to make a split-second decision to amputate one of her polyamorous crewmate’s arms in season 6 of the TV show? Expect more of that sort of stuff in the Telltale game.

In addition to the base game, the release date press announcement also promises DLC (downloadable content) down the road. So not only are we getting the base game with Drummer and her crew, but it sounds like there are even more plans for The Expanse: A Telltale Series after the main story concludes.

The Expanse: A Telltale Series Episode 1 releases on July 27 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store. Four more episodes will follow, with a new one being released every two weeks. Mark your calendars, Beltalowdas!
