Report: Mrs. Davis won’t return for a second season

Mrs. Davis is a new Peacock show about a nun (Betty Gilpin) fighting against an all-powerful AI that has half the population under its control. With everyone buzzing about AI these days, this seems like a recipe for success, and indeed, the show was well-received. But it’s looking doubtful that Mrs. Davis will return for a second season.

That’s according to TV Line, which cites a source within Peacock who told them that are no plans for Mrs. Davis season 2. Peacock itself declined to comment.

There have been other clues that this is the end of the road for Mrs. Davis. For instance, originally Peacock was going to submit Mrs. Davis to the Emmys as a comedy, but ended up putting the show up for the Limited Series category instead. That suggests this is a one-and-done thing. And the first season did wrap up things up more or less neatly.

It doesn’t look like Mrs. Davis will return for season 2 on Peacock

Mrs. Davis was created by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, who also made the one-season-wonder show Watchmen over on HBO. Maybe his new thing is creating fun sci-fi series that drop a bunch of episodes, entertain us, and get out.

And I’m more or less okay with that; not every show needs to be an epic that continues for 10 seasons. On the other hand, it would be cool to see an original idea like Mrs. Davis get some time in the sun.

In any case, if this is the end, the entirety of Mrs. Davis is now available to stream on Peacock.
