When will House of the Dragon season 2 air?

The second season of House of the Dragon — HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series — is filming as we speak. We’re that much closer to seeing what happens next to Rhaenyra, Daemon, Alicent and the rest of our favorite inbred heroes.

But we have a while yet to wait. The cast and crew are well into filming the second season, but there are still months left to go. After that, the post-production artists will get to work behind the scenes bringing to life the battles, dragons, and dragon battles that will hopefully make House of the Dragon season 2 one for the ages.

So when can we actually expect to watch these new episodes? Not until next year at the earliest.

When is the new season of House of Dragon?

The first season of House of the Dragon premiered in August of 2022. It’s possible that season 2 could kick off somewhere around that date in 2024, or later. We’d guess it’ll premiere in the fall.

Things could have gone very differently. At the moment, Hollywood is in the midst of a writers’ strike, as the scribes of the screen hold out for better compensation, regulations regarding AI, and more. Some shows are putting off filming their new seasons until the strike is resolved, but House of the Dragon was already in the midst of filming on its second season when the strikes began. With the scripts already completed, HBO opted to continue with production.

So at least season 2 won’t get delayed because of the strike…although whether it will be as good as it can be without writers on the set is another question.
