Today marks the day when Warner Bros. Discovery rebrands its HBO Max streaming service as simply “Max.” The updated service will now include content from Discovery+.

Or at least, today is supposed to be the day HBO Max switches to Max. Here in my house, it’s still coming up as HBO Max. Still some kinks to work out, apparently.

Anyway, you might be wondering if you have to do anything to make the switch. The short answer is: possibly, but not much.

Do you have to do anything to turn HBO Max into Max?

The Max help center has outlined what people need to do to make the switch. It depends on what device you access your streaming services through. Here’s the layout:

  • If you accessed HBO Max on Amazon, Cox, Roku, VIZIO TV, or Xfinity, all you have to do is find the Max app and open it. Bing bang boom, you’re off to the races.
  • If you accessed HBO Max on Android, Apple, DIRECTV, LG TV, PlayStation, Samsung TV, or Xbox, you have to open the HBO Max app and hit “download.”

Either way, if you were already using HBO Max, it should be very simple to get going with Max. And you definitely want to have everything in order before the series finale of Succession this upcoming Sunday, right?
