The Walking Dead may have ended, but AMC is expanding the franchise. Soon we’ll see Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) travel to Manhattan in Dead City, and after that, Daryl Dixon finds himself across the Atlantic in a zombie-infested France.

The six-episode Daryl Dixon series is being filmed on-location in France, and it looks absolutely glorious. The Walking Dead mostly confined us to the forests of Georgia. To see how the apocalypse went down in France is a real eye opener.

During the commercials for the season premiere of Fear The Walking Dead season 8, AMC released a short “In Production” teaser for Daryl’s spinoff. Take a look:

According to the official synopsis, Daryl doesn’t end up in France out of his own free will. Rather, he’s captured and shipped over there. The reason? That remains to be seen. “Daryl washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why,” the synopsis reads. “The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.“

“The story’s way different,” Reedus told Entertainment Weekly a few months back. “The characters are way different. There’s a different tone, there’s different light, there’s a different sound. It’s a whole different vibe.”

Naturally, the spinoff has a very French cast, including Clémence Poésy, Anne Charrier, Laika Blanc Francard, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Romain Levi, and Eriq Ebanouey. “People are speaking French around me, and part of my story is me trying to figure out, ‘Is this good or is this bad? Are we about to get into a fight or are we friends right now?” Reedus said. “I’m trying to read lips with the language that I don’t understand and I’m reading body language, I’m reading tone.”

Dead City premieres on AMC and AMC+ next month. While the Daryl Dixon show doesn’t have a release date yet, it is slated to arrive sometime later this year. Exciting times ahead!
