It feels like we’ve been waiting for this forever. The first season of The Wheel of Time wrapped up in December of 2021. Now, at long last, Amazon has revealed that the second season will premiere on Prime Video on September 1.
The first season of the show roughly followed the plot of The Eye of the World, the first book in Robert Jordan’s 14-book strong Wheel of Time series. The second season will take elements from the next two books, The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn, as well as make up some new stuff.
For instance, we saw at the end of season 1 that people from the Seanchan Empire had arrived from across the sea to try and reconquer their ancestral homeland. That’s from The Great Hunt. Ditto Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) beginning their training as Aes Sedai sorceresses. But lead character Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) will go into hiding to spare his friends the oncoming madness that affects all men who can channel, something that doesn’t happen until The Dragon Reborn.
Meanwhile, the Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) lost her powers at the end of season 1. She’ll try and regain them in season 2, which is a completely net plot. Another big change is that the part of Mat Cauthon will now be played by Dónal Finn, taking over for Barney Harris from season 1.

Entertainment Weekly got its hands on a bunch of first-look images! Take a peek below, starting with the brand new Mat:
As mentioned before, Egwene and Nynaeve are off to wizard school, more or less:
We haven’t yet mentioned Perrin (Marcus Rutherford), who will likely follow his plot from The Great Hunt and go looking for the Horn of Valere:
I don’t know how to feel about the Moiraine-loses-her-powers subplot. I always get nervous when the writers start making stuff up that’s not in the source material:
Moiraine’s warder Lan (Daniel Henney) is also along for the ride:
Rand on the run:
Finally, here’s a picture of some Seanchan invaders alongside Loial (Hammed Animashaun) and…the evil Ba’alzamon (Fares Fares), whom Rand defeated at the end of season 1 thinking he was the all-powerful Dark One (this story get twisty, apologies in advance). That’s a motley crew if I ever saw one.
See you in September!
