Game of Thrones alum Eddie Eyre joins cast of House of the Dragon season 2
By Dan Selcke
Filming on the second season of House of the Dragon is ending in the Spanish city of Cáceres, and we’ve made memories aplenty. Before the show continues shooting elsewhere, here’s one last dispatch to pique the interest of fans: Eddie Eyre, an actor who originally appeared on Game of Thrones Lord Commander of the Kingsguard Gerold Hightower, will also appear in House of the Dragon.
This information comes from actor Michelle Bonnard, who played a King’s Landing brothel keeper in the first season of House of the Dragon. It looks like she’ll be back for season 2; she posted a picture of herself the other day with Eyre and Jordon Stevens, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen’s lady-in-waiting Elinda Massey:
Also, Eyre’s Spotlight CV lists him as appearing in a “returning series” for HBO. It doesn’t name House of the Dragon specifically…but c’mon, I think we all know which “returning series” he’s talking about.
Who will Eddie Eyre play on House of the Dragon?
On Game of Thrones, we met Gerold Hightower when Bran dipped back into the past and watched his father Ned Stark fight a couple of Kingsguard knights at the Tower of Joy in Dorne; Gerold was the knight who didn’t duel-wield swords.
Even though that was a flashback of sorts, it still happened many years after the events of House of the Dragon, and there’s no chance Eyre is playing the same role in the prequel. Most likely he’s playing a completely new role, which has been known to happen. Jefferson Hall played Ser Hugh of the Vale in the first season of Game of Thrones and now plays the roles of twin brothers Tyland and Jason Lannister on Game of Thrones. Or what about when Dean-Charles Chapman played a Lannister prisoner on Game of Thrones only to show back up later as King Tommen Baratheon? HBO isn’t opposed to reusing actor if they’re right for the part, and so far it hasn’t hurt the story at all. So welcome back, Eddie Eyre.
There are other new cast members popping up here and there, rounded up by outlets like Redanian Intelligence, Watchers on the Wall and El Periódico Extremadura. They include folks like Ralph Davis, Tok Stephen, Barney Fishwick, Anna Francolini and Scroobius Pip, who may have the best name in the history of names.
House of the Dragon season 2 is due to air on HBO and Max sometime in 2024. We’ll keep an eye out as filming continues.
