John Wick: Chapter 4 landed in theaters in March, and has since become the most successful film in the franchise. The first John Wick film was a little-seen return to action stardom for Keanu Reeves, and this most recent one finds him back on top where he belongs.

Naturally, Lionsgate has no intention of letting this success go to waste. “We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what the regular cadence of spin-offs, television really growing that universe so that there is a steady cadence of a franchise that there’s clear appetite by the audience,” executive Joe Drake said during a recent earnings call, according to ComicBook.com.

"What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spinoff that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including [John Wick 5] and including television series, The Continental, will be airing soon. And so, we’re building out the world and when that five movie comes, will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick."

Beware SPOILERS for John Wick: Chapter 4 below

Ballerina is a movie that will focus on a new character played by Ana de Armas, while The Continental is a TV show set in the assassin hotel of the same name from the mainline movies; that one will stream on Peacock in the U.S. and on Amazon Prime Video internationally.

As for John Wick 5, it makes sense that Lionsgate would want to make it, but there’s a problem (last chance to avoid SPOILERS): John Wick dies in Chapter 4.

Now, this movie takes place in a pretty wild alternate universe where the assassin industry is the biggest business in the world, so I’m sure they could write their way around John Wick’s death if they wanted too. Maybe they find a way for him to be resurrected. Maybe they do some light retconning to change the meaning of the final scenes of Chapter 4. There’s ways. We’ll have to wait to see what happens.
