With the WGA strike still ongoing, many TV shows have halted production for the time being, resulting in their release dates being pushed back. However, one show which is not being affected by the strike (for the time being anyway) is House of the Dragon. The scripts for the second season were completed long before the strike began, and filming was already happening when it was called. So HBO is continuing to shoot the ongoing story of the Targaryen dynasty.
Speaking to Collider, series director Clare Kilner revealed that there are five directors working on the eight episodes of season 2. She also explained how the shooting schedule will work out for her in the coming months: “I shot a few days in the last couple of weeks, and then actually tomorrow I’m diving full in until September,” she said.
"Yeah, I’m doing Episodes 2 and 5, really interesting episodes. It’s really difficult to talk about because I’m worried I’m gonna give it away, but it’s great. It’s really wonderful, having done three episodes prior, to come into something which is like such a family. I know the actors, have this rapport with them, you know, it’s just, it’s really exciting. I’m always nervous before new jobs even if I know everybody, but I love it."
New House of the Dragon episodes “really interesting”
For the first season, Kilner directed the episodes “King of the Narrow Sea,” “We Light The Way” and “The Green Council”; she’s basically a Westerosi veteran at this point. For her to call her season 2 episodes “really interesting” gives fans a teaser of what to expect when the new season finally comes out sometime next year.
House of the Dragon season 1 is now available to stream on Max.
