Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) talks growing up on set of Stranger Things

Stranger Things is one of the biggest science fiction shows on the planet, and soon it’ll be ending with its fifth and final season. While fans have been eager to see how the saga will wrap up, perhaps no one is more excited than the cast and crew who have worked so hard to make it such a phenomenon.

Caleb McLaughlin has been playing Lucas Sinclair on Stranger Things since the start. The actor was only 13 when he signed on. Now he’s 21. McLaughlin quite literally grew up on the set.

McLaughlin recently spoke to Collider, where he discussed how he’s torn between excitement to get back to work on Stranger Things season 5 and “dreading” the fact that it’s actually coming to an end:

"I’m looking forward to just, of course, seeing the cast again and getting back together. I grew up on the show, and when I see them, I feel like I’m my 13-year-old self again, having fun on set, being naive, and just living in this fun world. And then, the thing that I’m dreading is that this will be the last one. Stranger Things has been a big part of my life. Even if I hated being on the show, I would miss it because I was such a kid, when I first came onto the show, and I grew up on the show through my adolescent years. I’m an adult now. I’m 21. So, it was a big part of my life. I grew up on the show, so it’s gonna be sad when it’s all over."

Everyone is more than a little curious about how Stranger Things will end, but McLaughlin isn’t spilling the beans. “I’m not telling you,” he laughed. “No, I actually don’t have all the secrets yet. I have an idea of what’s gonna happen, but I can’t wait to hear more about it, once this writers strike is over.”

Stranger Things season 5 is expected to premiere sometime in 2024, but with the WGA writers’ strike delaying filming that date is very much up in the air. We’ll be keeping a close eye out for updates.
