Supergirl actor got Henry Cavill’s blessing for The Flash

Pretty soon, Warner Bros. Discovery will release what could be the final gasp in the original DC Cinematic Universe: The Flash. Ezra Miller will appear as Barry Allen, a role they started playing back in Justice League in 2017. It will also feature the final appearance of Ben Affleck as Batman.

Other DC veterans won’t be turning up (unless WBD has kept some big surprises from us), including Henry Cavill, who debuted as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel. However, The Flash will feature Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Superman’s cousin.

“I met [Henry Cavill],” Calle told Entertainment Weekly. “I met him actually after the movie was done, months later. I gave him a big hug. You know, it’s Henry Cavill, man! Our Man of Steel. He is kind and very proper, and it was a great experience.”

"I asked him, ‘Did I make you proud, cuz? Does Superman approve?’ And he was like, ‘Absolutely. You did a phenomenal job.’ I think, to me, that meant the world, because it’s Henry Cavill, Man of Steel."

So even if Cavill doesn’t appear in the movie, at least it has his blessing…and if he does appear, all the better. I’m willing to be delightfully surprised.

The Flash was never in danger of getting cancelled

And delightful surprise would be a change for a movie that has been plagued by scandal for the length of its production. The biggest scandals hit when star Ezra Miller was making headlines all over the country for everything from assault to child endangerment. It got to the point where some were speculating that the movie might just get canceled, but producer Barbara Muschietti claims that was never really in the cards.

“No. That was never real,” Muschietti told EW. “We have a lot of empathy in general for people who need help, and especially in mental health issues. That’s why they are taking the necessary steps to deal with their recovery, and we support them in that.”

It’s all water under the bridge now, for better or worse. The Flash opens in theaters on June 16.
