Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2: June 15 (Paramount+)
There are a lot of Star Trek shows on the air right now; Star Trek: Picard just wrapped up its third and final season earlier this year. Soon enough, Paramount+ will air the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, a series that tries to recapture of the magic of the original show.
Like Black Mirror, Strange New Worlds keeps things simple: every episode tells a story that stands more or less on its own, although in this case the cast return week after week for new adventures. This show is set before even Star Trek: The Original Series, and follows Captain Pike (Anson Mount) during his tenure aboard the Starship Enterprise, with younger versions of characters like Spock and Uhura also along for the ride.
Fan response to the first season of Strange New Worlds was very strong. With some experience under their belt, hopefully the second season is even better.
Outlander season 7: June 16 (Starz)
Starz’s adaptation of Diana Gabandon’s Outlander books has firmly established itself as a legacy hit. There are legions of fans invested in the journeys of Clare and Jamie Fraser (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan), two people from different time periods who somehow found each other, fell in love, and built a life in pre-Revolutionary War America.
Only this time the Revolutionary War is actually going to happen, after much teasing. This is the penultimate season of the show, which will wrap up with season 8. At 16 episodes, it’s bigger than any season since the first, a signal that Starz wants to give fans their money’s worth as this story approaches its end.
