House of the Dragon costume team talks Rhaenyra’s wedding dress

It takes a village to raise a child or make a big-budget fantasy TV show like House of the Dragon; not just writers, directors and actors, but also costume designers, set decorators, sound editors and much more. Those dragons don’t just happen!

In the spirit of highlighting the craftspeople behind the scenes, Max just dropped a featurette showing us how the costumes on the show came together. Costume designer Jany Temime, star Milly Alcock (young Rhaenyra Targaryen), and more people weigh in on how the designs came to life, with a focus on Rhaenyra’s wedding gown from the fifth episode as a proof of concept.

Watch the feature below!

Milly Alcock was afraid of spilling something on Rhaenyra Targaryen’s wedding gown

Before signing on to House of the Dragon, Jany Temime worked on the Harry Potter movies as well as films like Gravity and Skyfall. She clearly knows what she’s doing. I liked how she approached things on House of the Dragon; she knew she had to evoke the style established on Game of Thrones but still make it feel different, which I think she did admirably. And as many things as possible in silk!

As for Rhaenyra’s wedding gown, it was fun to see Milly Alcock stress over spilling something on the dress; there were only two of them made, after all, so one little dribble could shut down a whole set.
