Watch the official trailer for The Witcher season 3

Hoo boy. Netflix has released a trailer for the third season of The Witcher, its much-beleaguered high fantasy series starring Henry Cavill as professional monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.

Or at least it used to star Henry Cavill. There’s been a lot of chatter since Cavill revealed that he won’t play Geralt after season 3. Starting with season 4, he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

What will that look like? Who knows? For now, we have one more run with Cavill in the lead role. Watch the trailer for The Witcher season 3 below:

Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri bond in new clip from The Witcher season 3

Other big players include the sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), wayward princess Ciri (Freya Allen), and the bard Jaskier (Joey Batey), who fulfills his destiny by wise-cracking up a storm in the trailer. The third season of The Witcher will adapt Blood of Elves, the third book in Andrzej Sapkowski Witcher saga.

Redanian Intelligence also has a little teaser that’s reportedly from the first episode. It shows Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri bonding after the events of season 2, when Yennefer, um…tried to kill Ciri in a bid to regain her magical powers. No emotional scarring that a little ice-skating can’t cure, I guess:

The Witcher season 3 will premiere on Netflix on June 29, but that will only include a little more than half the new episodes. The back half of the season will drop on July 27.
