Pedro Pascal still hasn’t watched The Last of Us finale

The first season of The Last of Us wrapped up earlier this year, leaving us all with a new zombie obsession. Variety did something clever by sitting star Pedro Pascal down with actor Steven Yuen, who first got famous after appearing on The Walking Dead, our last zombie obsession. The pair talked about their careers in a meaty interview:

Pascal and Yuen are both among the busiest actors in Hollywood. In addition to The Last of Us, Pascal has joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel as well as teamed up with David Harbour to star in and produce a show called My Dentist’s Murder Trial. Most likely, he’ll be the dentist.

Maybe that’s why Pascal hasn’t found time to watch the season 1 finale of The Last of Us, where his character Joel goes on a killing spree to save his surrogate daughter Ellie (Bella Ramsey)…or maybe that just felt like an awkward watch.

Pedro Pascal: Working on The Last of Us “was like falling in love”

“I saw it all up until then,” Pascal said of The Last of Us. “I haven’t done anything for that amount of time before, so my attachment to the experience is strange. As a guy who’s pushing 50, to feel this very innocent, semi-angry attachment to an experience that’s over…”

Of course, the show isn’t over over; HBO has ordered season 2, although it won’t be going into production as quickly as originally planned thanks to the writers strike. “It continues, but there will never be another meeting Bella for the first time, working with [showrunner] Craig [Mazin] and the entire crew, working with my friend Coco, who did my hair, and the whole family experience of it. I think it was like falling in love.”

I wonder if watching Joel slaughter a hospital full of freedom fighters would make it feel more like a breakup, and that’s without getting into what’s in store for season 2…but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
