The CW officially renews Superman & Lois for season 4

The CW axed pretty much all of its DC shows over the past couple of years, including Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman. In the end, there were two superhero series left standing: Superman & Lois, about Superman and Lois; and Gotham Knights, about the children of Batman villains teaming up to clear their names after being framed for the murder of the Caped Crusader.
We heard that the CW was only likely to renew one of these shows, and it’s now made it’s choice: Deadline reports that Superman & Lois will return for a fourth season of 10 episodes.
“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW,” said exeucutive Brad Schwartz. “These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
The CW renews Superman & Lois, cancels Gotham Knights
Between Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights, it was always clear which series was more popular with fans. However, The CW has been trying to slash its budget lately, so there were fears that Superman & Lois might get the axe since it’s the more expensive series.
Instead, reason has prevailed and The CW will be going forward with more Superman & Lois. However, there could still be budget cutbacks. For one thing, there will only be 10 episodes rather than the usual 13, and Deadline posits that the show may lean into the family drama aspect rather than send Superman on too many expensive missions to the moon or whatever.
There’s no release date as of yet for Superman & Lois season 4, but the first three seasons are available to stream now on Max.
