Star Wars: Andor showrunner teases more cameos coming in season 2!

When Star Wars: Andor premiered last year, it surpassed everyone’s expectations to quickly become one of the most celebrated shows in the entire Star Wars franchise. It was gritty and dark with a distinct, gritty quality that made it a big hit among adults.
Unlike other shows set in the galaxy far far away, Andor didn’t give us tons of cameos. Sure, there were a few fun appearances by characters like Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera, but they didn’t take over the show like Din Djarin and Grogu did in The Book of Boba Fett. Looking ahead to season 2, it sounds like showrunner Tony Gilroy is keen to introduce some more famous characters from across the Star Wars galaxy.
“Of course. Yeah, I mean, yes. The answer is yes. And there are some that are inevitable, there are some that are surprising, there are some that we probably can’t get for various reasons… But, you kinda know who’s in the stew there,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
In terms of inevitable cameos, I expect to see the droid K-2SO, who plays a part in Rogue One. Actor Alan Tudyk confirmed all but confirmed it. “If it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there,” Tudyk told Collider while the first season was filming in 2021.
Star Wars: Andor season 2 spans several years, has time jumps
The Andor writers are switching it up for season 2. It will contain four time jumps, each one covering about a year. Formatting a show like this can cause problems, like losing momentum or skipping over character development, but Gilroy firmly believes the team can pull it off.
“That’s the bar we set, and that’s the game we’re playing,” Gilroy explained. “We think we figured out how to do it. [We have] a responsibility to the characters we’ve set up and launched into this world and their trajectories. Our responsibility is to bring it home efficiently. But mostly, it’s to pay off emotionally and stick the landing.”
Andor season 1 is currently streaming on Disney+. Gilroy has reportedly finished writing the scripts for season 2. However, with the writers strike at large in Hollywood, he is not actively working on the show, which has been in production since November 2022 and is slated is wrap in August.
