Check out new images from The Wheel of Time season 2

The second season of The Wheel of Time is heading to Amazon Prime Video. This new season will adapt The Great Hunt, the second book in Robert Jordan’s beloved fantasy; it’ll probably also pull in elements of the third book, The Dragon Reborn, and maybe even a bit beyond that.
In honor of the new season, there’s a new edition of The Great Hunt hitting book stores, with stars from the Amazon show adorning the cover. Check it out:
That’s Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) and Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowsk) on the cover. They’re interesting choices, because their paths will take them on different journeys in season 2. Rand is going into hiding following what he thought was the defeat of the powerful Dark One at the end of season 1, while Moiraine intends to get back her Aes Sedai magical powers.

The first season of the show adapted The Eye of the World more or less faithfully, although there were definitely deviations. We can expect more of that as the show goes on. Maybe we can glean something from a new set of season 2 images, starting with this one of Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford) looking like he’s ready to mix it up:
In The Wheel of Time books, Perrin has distinctive yellow eyes, a side effect of his strange communion with wolves. Meanwhile, his friend Mat has a whole new face:
Mat was played by Barney Harris in the first season, but will be played by Dónal Finn in season 2. We never did learn the reason for the switch, but Finn looks the part.
Daniel Henney will return as Lan Mandragoran, Moiraine’s protector and an accomplished warrior.
Finally, we have Nynaeve (Zoë Robins), Egwene (Madeleine Madden) and new character Elayne (Ceara Coveney), all of whom are training to become Aes Sedai sorceresses.
The Wheel of Time season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 1.
