Despite the ongoing Hollywood writers strike, filming continues on the second season of House of the Dragon, which HBO is determined to get to us next year. When last we left off, Alicent Hightower’s son Aemond Targaryen had killed Rhaenyra Targaryen’s son Lucerys Velaryon in a dragon chase gone wrong. This. Means. War.

We’ve already seen cast members like Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower) and Fabien Frankel (Criston Cole) filming scenes for the second season in the Spanish city of Cáceres, which will stand in for King’s Landing. Now several cast members are gathering in Wales to film more scenes.

Specifically, we know that Harry Collett — who plays Rhaenyra’s eldest son Jaecerys Velaryon — and Bethany Antonia — who plays Daemon Targaryen’s daughter Baela — are in the area. We know that because Collett himself posted a picture of the two of them:

What scenes will House of the Dragon film in Wales?

According to North Wales Live, cast and crew members for House of the Dragon are staying in the small seaside town of Caernarfon. That said, actual filming will likely go down at the nearby Dinorwic quarry, per Wiki of Thrones.

North Wales Live says that Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra) is also expected to visit the area for filming. Matt Smith (Daemon) and Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower) are also rumored to be on the call sheet.

As for what the cast and crew will film in Wales, it’s hard to say. Sometimes one location can be used for multiple scenes spread across a season. Last we checked in on Jaecerys, he was headed north to treat with Lord Cregan Stark, who at this point is the Lord of Winterfell. Perhaps Wales will stand in for the North?

We could also have more scenes on Dragonstone, where Rhaenyra will spend a lot of time. We’ve also heard of a big battle scene on the way: the Battle of the Gullet. That one would probably go down towards the end of the season.

We’ll keep you posted as filming in Wales starts up, reportedly in early July.
