Carol will join Daryl in new Walking Dead spinoff after all!
By Dan Selcke
Earlier this week, AMC debuted the first footage from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, a new Walking Dead spinoff series where the title character — played since the very first season by Norman Reedus — somehow washes up on the zombie-infested shores of France.
With good buzz surrounding Dead City, Walking Dead fans are feeling pretty good lately, and were ready to embrace this new spinoff. But for some, it was hard not to regret never seeing the show that could have been. Because at first, the plan wasn’t to make a show just about Daryl Dixon, but about Daryl and his longtime platonic soulmate Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) as well.
That plan seemed to fall apart when things didn’t work out with McBride’s schedule. “Melissa McBride has given life to one of the most interesting, real, human and popular characters in The Walking Dead Universe,” an AMC spokesperson said at the time, per ComicBook.com. “Unfortunately, she is no longer able to participate in the previously announced spin-off focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe…Relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We know fans will be disappointed by this news, but The Walking Dead Universe continues to grow and expand in interesting ways and we very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.”
Norman Reedus (Daryl) and Melissa McBride (Carol) appear together in The Walking Dead spinoff
Well, the near future is now, because photos are going around showing both Reedus and McBride on set. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, tweeted out one of the photos himself, along with a dig at the toxic internet trolls who assumed McBride’s absence was Reedus’ fault:
How do these two end up together? It’s hard enough to get our heads around one of these characters somehow getting to France, let alone two. But I guess we’ll find out more when The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon airs on AMC this fall.
