Harry Potter is coming back. And I’m not talking about another one of those Fantastic Beasts movies no one watched; Max is making a brand new Harry Potter TV show based on J.K. Rowling’s original books, which means a whole new cast of actors playing Harry, Ron, Hermione and all the rest.

That said, a lot of people are still attached to the versions of these characters we got in the Harry Potter movies, which starred Daniel Radcliffe as The Boy Who Lived. Speaking to Deadline, Radcliffe doesn’t think a cameo is in the cards for the new show. “I don’t think so, no,” he said. “Certainly, everything I’ve read about the series they’re starting fresh, so it’d be a bit weird to have me pop in.”

"I think it’s like Harry Potter was always destined to become like Sherlock Holmes. The people that saw Basil Rathbone play Sherlock Holmes then like ‘No one could ever do this!’ They’re gonna, though. It’ll get passed on to somebody."

The thought of the role getting passed on is something Radcliffe has thought about. Having gone through it, he has sympathy for whoever’s next. “The weird thought I have now is like, ‘Oh that’s probably like an eight-year-old kid out there somewhere whose life is going to change in a couple years.’ My brain does go there.”

The Harry Potter movie series “wasn’t important” to Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout)

For Radcliffe, the Harry Potter movies were extremely important; he basically grew up on set. But for an actor like Miriam Margolyes, who briefly appeared as Professor Sprout in the second and eighth movies, it was just another job in a long list of acting credits.

“For me, ‘Harry Potter’ wasn’t important,” Margolyes told British Vogue. “I was very glad I got the part and I enjoyed being in it and meeting all the people, but it’s not Charles Dickens.”

That said, Morgolyes does get a kick out of the notoriety the role has given her. “People come up to me and say ‘I just love you’, and want to hug me. And that is dazzling.”

There’s no release date set yet for the new Harry Potter. I agree it would be a little distracting for Radcliffe to appear, but if they got Morgolyes in there, that could be funny.
