Deleted scenes reveals that [SPOILER] survived Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
By Dan Selcke
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the end of the Guardians trilogy directed by James Gunn. The series will continue, but it’ll never be quite the same.
The movie is coming out on Blu-ray. The home video release will be loaded up with special features, including a gag reel, a director’s commentary, deleted scenes and more. Here are two of the mini-documentaries you’ll be treated to:
- The Imperfect, Perfect Family: View the evolution of the Guardians through the cast and crew’s passion for each other and the entire franchise. Join this tight knit “found family” as they leave behind a legacy and recount their best memories wrapping up this epic trilogy’s final film.
- Creating Rocket Raccoon: Director James Gunn talks about bringing Rocket to life and how personal the character is to him. Uncover BTS footage, the research and development of the visual effects process, and the inspiration for Rocket through conversations with cast and crew.
And there are eight deleted scenes:
- A Bit Much: Adam Warlock explains to Ayesha what he plans to do with the Guardians.
- A Lending Hand: Peter lends a hand to an injured humanimal on Counter-Earth and shows he means no harm.
- Drax’s Analogies and Metaphors: Drax gives Peter some interesting life analogies and metaphors.
- The Perfect Society: The High Evolutionary reveals his mission to perfect the universe.
- The Search for 89P13: Behemoth brings not-so-good news to The High Evolutionary.
- Annoyed Peter: Peter gets annoyed while altering the shield.
- A Burning Escape: Peter runs back to grab his music player before escaping a blazing inferno on the Arête.
- Knowhere After the Battle: The High Evolutionary is brought back to Knowhere and locked up while Kraglin recruits Adam Warlock.
The High Evolutionary survives in deleted scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
That last deleted scene is noteworthy, because it gives something away that may not have been obvious during the initial watch: the villain the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) survives to the end of the movie, and ends it imprisoned on the Guardians home base of Knowhere.
In the movie, the last we see of the High Evolutionary is the Guardians beating the crap out of him before Rocket lets him live. That said, we don’t see the Guardians take the High Evolutionary with them and his spaceship blows up not long after, so you couldn’t be called crazy for assuming that he went down with it.
But apparently no. Gunn explained on Twitter that it was always the plan for the High Evolutionary to survive, even if we didn’t see it happen in the theatrical cut of the movie. “It seems silly & hollow that [Rocket would] refuse to kill him & then leave him on an exploding ship,” Gunn wrote. “And, yes, there is a deleted scene. It’s really great actually but it messed up the pacing of the end. But you’ll see it in the extras eventually.”
And so we will. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 comes out on Blu-ray on August 1.
