The fifth and final season of Stranger Things has yet to start filming, and won’t until the Hollywood writers strike wraps up. In the absence of real news, rumors have popped up. For instance, news outlet Giant Freaking Robot reported that Oscar winner Jodie Foster was joining the cast!

If that sounds a little too big to be true, it is. A Twitter account run by the writers on Stranger Things addressed the rumor directly, responding to a deleted tweet from Giant Freaking Robot: “No she’s not.”

Giant Freaking Robot is known for reporting wild, unsubstantiated rumors with no foundation, so it’s no surprise that the Jodie Foster thing didn’t pan out. The Stranger Things writers may be aware of this, because they responded to GFR with some serious shade:

"Or you could, you know, work to confirm information provided by your sources before blasting it out onto the internet. It would drastically improve your hit ratio, as well as being the right thing to do."

The Stranger Things writers roast website for spreading rumors about season 5

Alright, that is a genuinely spicy rejoinder from the Stranger Things writers! I wonder if I could get them to roast us…uh, Sylvester Stallone will be in Stranger Things season 5! Spread it around.

Although filming on the final season has been pushed back, we are getting news. For instance, we recently learned that Terminator star Linda Hamilton will join the fifth season in an unnamed role. I wonder if she’ll act with Stallone.
