Every month, we read over the latest dispatches from the front lines of the Streaming Wars and assess how the likes of Netflix, Max, Disney+ and the rest are doing. Who won the day, who was defeated, and who’s biding their time? We mark it all down on this living graph, which changes every month.
Paramount+
Paramount+ started up a new season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds this month. That’s good. It also purged shows like Star Trek: Prodigy, Inside Amy Schumer, Queen of the Universe and more; they’re not available to watch on the platform anymore. That’s bad. And it raised its prices. Points: +0
Netflix
Notable originals on Netflix in June included new episodes of Manifest, Never Have I Ever, Black Mirror, The Witcher and the movie Extraction 2, together with plentiful library titles. Points: +3
Disney+
The big-ticket item on Disney+ in June was the premiere of Secret Invasion, Marvel’s next big TV show. It’s not very exciting. Also there was a somewhat controversial documentary about Stan Lee. It gets an extra point for getting Avatar: The Way of Water, one of the biggest films in recent memory. Points: +2
Hulu
The biggest thing out on Hulu in June was the second season of The Bear, which debuted to much buzz last year. Beyond that, can I interest you in an update of The Full Monty? Points: +1
Max
Between new seasons of The Righteous Gemstones, And Just Like That… and Warrior, Max had some great original content this month, not to mention all the library titles. It may get a point off for continuing to air The Idol…but I’m giving that point back because Warrior is absolutely the most kickass show nobody is watching. Watch Warrior! Points: +3
Amazon Prime Video
The biggest thing on Amazon last month was the premiere of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan season 4. There were library titles and some originals beyond that, but nothing many people are talking about. Points: +1
Apple TV+
Apple TV+ got some buzz in June thanks to Tom Holland’s new show The Crowded Room and Idris Elba’s new series Hijack, along with more new episodes of the well-regarded sci-fi show Silo. Apple TV+ is the litter streamer that could; it never has a ton to offer, but what’s there is usually worth talking about. Points: +2
Peacock
Slim pickings for originals in June, but at least there were a lot of new library titles… Points: +1
