The Witcher season 3 vol. 2 trailer breakdown
By Daniel Roman
Geralt, Ciri, and Yen get their hands dirty
As the trailer nears its end, we’re treated to another quick montage of various action scenes. First up is the image above, where Geralt kills one of those (probably) Nilfgaardian soldiers we saw him fighting earlier in the forest. He’s using an axe, which is fun. Chop chop!
Ciri, with flames spreading out around her. Ciri may be tapping into fire magic here, something Yennefer specifically warned her not to do because of how it drains the strength of the mage casting the spell. Remember, Yen used fire magic at Sodden Hill and then was magic-less for an entire season. It’s a little nerve-wracking to think a similar fate could await Ciri.
Vilgefortz and Geralt work up a sweat in their duel while the camera spins through a bunch of debris.
Yennefer tosses someone out of her way and sticks them to the wall with magic. We’d guess she’s trying to get somewhere fast during the Thanedd coup.
Ciri sees some kind of vision with runic writing.
This bloody face is interesting. We can’t quite tell who it is, but my guess is that it’s either Keira Metz or Francesca, due to the eye color and skin tone. Blood pours over their face, while a reflection of a fiery circle glitters in their eyes. That reflection looks a lot like the magical circle which floated over the Thanedd ballroom during Episode 5.
A dark day for the witcher
The most ominous scene from the trailer comes at the end. It starts with Geralt, pictured above, looking pretty bad. This is during the fight with Vilgefortz. If you’ve read the book, you know why Geralt looks as beat up as he does, and you know how things will end.
That’s Geralt’s sword shattering into pieces as Vilgefortz smashes through it with his magically strengthened staff. This fight is going to be brutal.
The Witcher season 3 volume 1 is streaming now on Netflix. Volume 2 releases on July 27.
