Disney drops first poster for Percy Jackson and the Olympians show

Percy Jackson & the Olympians is a five-book strong fantasy series written by Rick Riordan. When young Percy Jackson (short for Perseus, because Greek myth) discovers that he’s actually the son of the Greek god Poseidon, he is sent to stay at Camp Half-Blood, a training facility for other “demigods” like himself. Camp Half-Blood is located in the most magical place on Earth: Long Island.

The Percy Jackson series was written in the wake of the Harry Potter phenomenon and feels like it. There were a couple of Percy Jackson movies in the early 2010s, but they didn’t reach anywhere the nears the heights of success of the Harry Potter films. Perhaps that’s why fans have looked askance at Max’s plans to make a Harry Potter TV series — do we really need a show when the movies are modern classics? — but are enthusiastic about the Percy Jackson TV show on its way to Disney+.

We still don’t know when the Percy Jackson series might premiere, but Disney is starting to promote it. Check out the very first poster for the series, below:

Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast list

It looks like the show will have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, which is scheduled to go down next week, from July 20-23. It’s up in the air whether we’ll see any of the actors there, now that pretty much all of Hollywood has gone on strike.

Speaking of actors, here’s who we know is in Percy Jackson and the Olympians so far:

  • Walker Scobel is Harry Potter Percy Jackson
  • Leah Sava Jeffries is Percy’s friend Hermione Annabeth
  • Aryan Simhadri is Percy’s friend Ron Grover
  • Toby Stephens is Poseidon
  • Jay Duplass is Hades
  • Lin-Manuel Miranda is Hermes
  • Timothy Omundson is Hephaestus
  • Jason Mantzoukas is Dionysus
  • Megan Mullaly is the fury Alecto

The show previously cast Lance Reddick as Zeus, but Reddick passed earlier this year. Season 1 will incorporate scenes filmed with Reddick, but the role will have to be recast whenever production gets underway on season 2.
