Grab your skillet and monster parts: The Witcher cookbook is coming!
By Daniel Roman
Have you ever wished you could whip up a Witcher-themed dinner so delicious it could make even a hardened warrior like Geralt of Rivia weep tears of bitter joy? Well, the day is fast approaching when you’ll be able to: an official Witcher cookbook is coming out later this year!
The Witcher Official Cookbook is being released by Anita Sarna and Karolina Krupecka, the creators of the popular Witcher Kitchen and Nerds’ Kitchen blogs, where they’ve been sharing their own take on various nerdy recipes for the past few years. They’ve joined forces with CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher video games, for this cooking compendium; that means you shouldn’t expect to see fare from the Netflix television show, but rather from the video games.
The Witcher cookbook based on the games and books is coming to a kitchen near you!
Considering how many different food items there are in the games, that’s not really a limitation. The Witcher Official Cookbook contains 80 recipes from across the Continent, so whether you want to feel like you’re hanging out in the dramatic peaks of the Skellige Isles or feasting on hearty peasant fair in the murky swamps of Velen, you’ve got options. Here’s the official description for the book from publisher Penguin Random House:
"Take a culinary journey through the fantastical world of The Witcher with thoughtfully imagined, flavorful recipes inspired by The Witcher‘s expansive settings, characters, and lore. In this beautifully photographed cookbook, Anita Sarna and Karolina Krupecka, the creators of fan-favorite food blogs Nerds’ Kitchen and Witcher Kitchen, share their meticulously-researched, immersive recipes that give fans a taste of the distinct flavors a witcher might sample as he travels the countryside in search of monsters to slay and coin to earn. These dishes celebrate local and seasonal ingredients while adding unique twists that form a culinary map of the Continent and beyond. Warm up over a bowl of fragrant stew or juicy baked fruit from the namesake trees of White Orchard; end a hard journey to Velen with a hearty, rustic meal at the local tavern; enjoy an aromatic snack as you stroll the markets of Oxenfurt; sample dishes from near and far in the diverse port city of Novigrad; dine on freshly-caught fish and mulled drinks on the islands of Skellige; feast on rich dishes in the sun-drenched climates of Toussaint and Beauclair; or forage on the perilous road to Kaer Morhen to learn the edible secrets of the witcher’s keep. Transport your kitchen to another world with the tempting scents and flavors in The Witcher Official Cookbook."
Beyond the collaboration with CD Projekt Red, Sarna and Krupecka’s Witcher cookbook also features a forward from none other than Andrzej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher book series that spawned this globe-spanning mega franchise. Many of the food items in the games are drawn from Sapkowski’s writings; his forward will feature his own “culinary inspirations and stories” which expand on how some of these recipes came about.
The Witcher Official Cookbook comes out on November 21. Best start stocking up on medieval cooking ingredients!
