Heroes are scattered in The Wheel of Time season 2 trailer
By Daniel Roman
Trailer Gaidon has arrived! Season 1 of Amazon’s fantasy show based on Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time series premiered almost two years ago, and now, at long last, we have our first good look at season 2.
The Wheel of Time follows an ensemble cast of characters who are drawn into a conflict against the forces of darkness. In season 1 we met the Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), her warder Lan (Daniel Henney), and five young men and women whisked away from their sleepy home in the Two Rivers to join the fight.
Chief among them is Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), who ended season 1 with the discovery that he was in fact a reincarnated savior called the Dragon Reborn. How will that discovery affect Rand and his allies in season 2?
If the freshly dropped trailer for the show’s upcoming second season is any indication, things will get intense. Check it out:

There’s a lot to unpack here. Season 1 ended with Moiraine losing her powers after a confrontation with one of the Dark One’s lieutenants at the Eye of the World, and Rand deciding to fake his own death in order to go into hiding.
From this trailer, it looks like our heroes are still scattered to the wind. We see Moiraine insisting to Lan that they must protect Rand; no sign of whether she has her powers back or not, though. We see Nynaeve and Egwene decked out in the white robes of Novices at the White Tower, where Aes Sedai are trained. Perrin’s eyes turn gold as he stands before dramatic landscapes, suggesting more scenes exploring his wolf powers that were hinted at in season 1 and which he has in the books. We also get a good look at new players like Elayne Trakand (Ceara Coveney), the Seanchan, and Dónal Finn, who is replacing Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon.
Rand is hanging out with some fascinating people in this trailer. There are a few shots of him with Natasha O’Keeffe, who is playing the Forsaken Lanfear. At the end of the trailer he’s talking to Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), who tells him that he’s not just a spoke on the Wheel of Time, but “the water that moves the wheel itself.” Now that’s a pep talk.
Rand also talks to the False Dragon Logain (Álvaro Morte), who had his magic taken away by the Aes Sedai in season 1. “I want to know how to control it,” Rand says to Logain, and the madman smiles. Are they talking about magic? Bleeding charisma? We don’t know for certain, but boy is Rand getting around this season.
We’ll be breaking the trailer down in more detail soon. The Wheel of Time premieres September 1 on Prime Video.
