Lando Calrissian writer has “no idea” what’s going on with the Disney+ show

A bunch of exciting Star Wars projects were announced during Disney Investor Day in 2020, from Ahsoka to Andor to Star Wars: Visions. Many of the projects that were revealed have either came and went or are just over the horizon. However, one show that’s been shrouded in mystery is the Lando Calrissian series. Almost three years after it was revealed, it doesn’t feel like we’re any closer to seeing it on Disney+.

Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien is the head writer on the Lando show, which will see Donald Glover reprise the role that he played in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Earlier this year, Star Wars boss Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the series is “still happening,” quelling rumors that it had been silently axed.

But Simien has “not received an update” since then. “I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show,” he told The Direct. “It feels like everybody loves it. And, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago.”

"So I don’t know. I have no idea what’s going on with it."

Why is the Lando Calrissian show on hold?

One problem for Lando is that it kinda exists outside the bubble of all the other shows in the franchise. The Star Wars universe is really pushing ‘MandoVerse” stuff at the moment, with shows like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew actively tying into that continuity. Lando doesn’t really fit.

Of course, the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood are only going to delay things further. Numerous productions have been put on hold until the strikes are resolved. Solidarity, as always!

The next Star Wars show to air is Ahsoka, which was announced on the same day as the Lando Calrissian series back in December 2020. Ahsoka premieres on August 23 on Disney+.
