With just over a week until The Witcher season 3 part 2 drops on Netflix, our time with Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia is fast drawing to a close. And it seems that the show is wasting no time passing the torch on to Liam Hemsworth, who is set to take over the role of Geralt from season 4 onwards.

The Witcher producer Tomek Baginski spoke to Express Online about the latest season of the show, and while he remained tight-lipped about the upcoming events of season 4, he did let slip that “I’ve already seen [Liam] in Witcher makeup, and in the Witcher look. And he looks awesome.”

This will no doubt give some reassurance to fans of The Witcher, many of whom were sorely disappointed to hear that Cavill was leaving the show after the third season given that he’s widely been seen as perfect for the role of Geralt. Baginski emphasized that he and other producers on the show are excited for what Hemsworth will bring to the role.

The Witcher producer “crazily excited” for Liam Hemsworth as Geralt

“There was a huge, huge noise on the internet. They didn’t believe [Hemsworth] would be a perfect Geralt,” Baginski said. “[But] he became a perfect Geralt. And I’m, on the same level, excited for Liam. It’s another Geralt, but it’s still an amazing actor with great charisma. And he’ll give a different flavour to this character, and a different style. And I’m very excited for that.”

Baginski worked on the trilogy of Witcher video games from CD Projekt Red, so his opinion holds some sway in the fandom. “The next stage will be Liam Hemsworth in this role. And he will be given space, he will be given his voice. He has to discover this character for himself,” Baginski said, hinting that we may see a different kind of Geralt starting in season 4.

Baginski finished by referring back to the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, which are beloved by fans. “For me, [the change of Hemsworth] is crazily exciting. Especially in the world of the books, which kind of allow this unsureness. There are so many angles on so many stories which happen in the books. So it will be a great discovery to do it again.”

Joey Batey (Jaskier) has seen Liam Hemsworth as Geralt

Joey Batey, who plays Jaskier, also praised Hemsworth while speaking to Dexterto. Batey, like Baginski, was limited in what he could reveal, but he did say that he is “very excited. I’ve seen a few of his makeup tests, but we’re not going to tell you much about it.”

Similar to Baginski, Batey emphasised that the recasting could bring a new energy to the show: “He’s going to bring something so fresh and invigorating to the role, and yeah, can’t wait.”

It seems that The Witcher fans have a lot to look forward to. The Witcher seasons 1-2 and season 3 part 1 are streaming now on Netflix. The Witcher season 3 part 2 arrives on July 27.
