Sam Heughan: Outlander prequel could be even more successful
By Ariba Bhuvad
Sam Heughan is weighing in on how he thinks the Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, will do. He’s sending out nothing but positive vibes because Heughan knows that this world is vast, the storytelling is intricate, and there is no way people won’t love this new show.
Of course, we’ve got some time before the new series begins to take form. I am unsure how the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike impacts writing and production in Scotland, but if they do, it’ll be a while before we see anything.
Whenever that day arrives, we will be ready to see how the story of Jamie Fraser’s parents — Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie — unfolds.
Sam Heughan doubts he’ll appear in Outlander prequel show
Speaking to Radio Times Magazine, Sam Heughan shared his thoughts on the prequel series. “Yeah, they’ve commissioned Blood of My Blood, about Jamie’s parents. I guess it’s a legacy, right? It’s what we’ve created. When we first went to Scotland and we created the studio where we shoot Outlander, there was nothing there and now it’s this huge facility. It’s created so many jobs in Scotland, so many people have been employed. I’m sure the new show will be just as successful, if not more so.”
You’ve read it here, folks! Sam Heughan is quite confident about the prequel. If we’re lucky, this will be the start of many other shows to come (*cough* Lord John Grey *cough*).
Heughan was asked if he might have a cameo in the prequel series, but given when it’s set, that wouldn’t make much sense. However, Heughan said he will “never say no” even if “it could be pretty difficult as it’s about Jamie’s parents when they’re young.”
Then again, given that Outlander involves time travel, anything is possible. “Unfortunately, Jamie can’t time travel, as far as I know,” Heughan said. “Just Claire. But you never know. That’s the joy of the show.”
I’m not sure if there is a reveal in the books currently where Jamie can suddenly time travel, but if that happens, it opens up a world of possibilities.
Whatever happens, I’m invested in what little remains of Outlander and can’t wait for what is yet to come with the prequel series (and hopefully, more after that).
