The Boys is a delightfully vulgar superhero show on Amazon Prime Video where most of the heroes are amoral monsters, especially the most powerful: the psychotic Homelander. It’s been a big hit for Amazon, and now the studio is preparing the first spinoff: Gen V.
Gen V is set at a superhero college called Godolkin University, where young supes compete for lucrative contracts to police major cities, and maybe even get a spot on the Seven. The new freshmen class are among the first supes to know that their powers come from Compound V, which their parents had injected into them as babies. “They quickly come to learn that ambition comes with sacrifice, and the difference between right and wrong is not as clear as they once believed,” reads the official description. “When the university’s dark secrets come to light, the students must come to grips with what type of heroes they are going to become.”
The cast includes Jaz Sinclair as Marie Moreau, who can telekinetically manipulate blood; Chance Perdomo as Andre Anderson, who can manipulate metal with his mind; Patrick Schwarzenegger as Golden Boy, who can set his body on fire; London Thor and Derek Luh as Jordan Li, a supe who can switch genders at will, and more. There are also cameos from actors from The Boys, including Jessie T. Usher (A-Train) and Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett). Watch the trailer below:
Gen V release date
“I exploded his dick!” Marie says at one point. Yep, it’s definitely a spinoff of The Boys. Although it seems very silly that the trailer has to bleep that and other naughty words. That’s just the kind of show this is; embrace it, YouTube.
I like The Boys, although I wonder if it’s so fantastic and popular that it needs a spinoff three seasons in. I guess we’ll see.
Gen V premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 29. As for The Boys proper, the fourth season is pretty much done, but post-production work has halted on account of the ongoing actors and writers strikes in Hollywood, so we don’t have a release date.
