Donald Glover and his brother Stephen take over writing duties for Lando show
By Dan Selcke
Among the many Star Wars series Disney has in development is one about a young Lando Calrissian, Han Solo’s frenemy from The Empire Strikes Back. The show will revolve around the younger version of Lando played by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story, although we’ve heard precious little about the series since Disney first unveiled it. In fact, just earlier this week, head writer Justin Simien said he had “no idea what’s going on with it.”
It ends up that Simien may not have been the best person to ask, because Variety is reporting that he’s exiting the series. Donald Glover himself will come on to handle the writing duties, along with his brother Stephen.
The Glover brothers collaborated on Donald Glover’s series Atlanta as well as on the movie Swarm, so they’re used to working together. We still don’t have a release window for Lando, but at least there’s some movement.
Donald Glover will write what Lando does and then do it
This deal was reached before the writers strike went into effect, by the way, nixing the possibility that it had something to do with Justin Simien’s latest project for Disney, The Haunted Mansion, which is expected to open this weekend in third place at the box office, behind the combined might of Barbie and Oppenheimer.
So Lando will one day come out on Disney+. In the meantime, the next Star Wars series on the platform, Ahsoka, premieres on August 23.
