After the middling Secret Invasion, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking a bit tired these days. But there’s no time to rest, because Marvel’s next Disney+ series is already on the way: check out the trailer for Loki season 2 below:

When last we left off, an alternate universe version of Loki named Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) had just killed He Who Remains, a megalomaniacal puppetmaster played by Jonathan Majors. He Who Remains had been keeping the timeline from spinning out of control, and now that he’s gone, there’s no telling what chaos awaits.

Majors has been embroiled in controversy of late, but even if Disney wanted to, it was too late to turn back on the second season of Loki. Tom Hiddleston is also back as the God of Mischief himself, as is Owen Wilson as Time Variance Authority bureaucrat Mobius M. Mobius. Joining the cast this year is Ke Huy Quan, who just won an Oscar for his performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once. It looks like he’s playing some kind of tech guy at the TVA.

Loki season 2 release date

Overall, I think the trailer looks pretty good! It moves quickly, the time-slipping effect looks creepy, and the show’s sense of humor seems intact. It looks bright and weird and wild, which is in contrast to dull monotony of Secret Invasion.

Still, I’ve been fooled by Marvel before, so I’ll reserve judgment for when Loki season 2 premieres on October 6.
